Karl Meltzer of Sandy, Utah is one of the pioneers of ultra running. At the age of 48, he has run 75 100-mile races and won more 100-milers than anyone. Karl moved to Utah in 1989 to be a ski-bum, but during the summer months, once the snow melted, he began to enjoy running the trails even more than skiing. Karl makes an effort to do different things with his life, working-to-live, not living-to-work. He is a golfer, a speed-golfer and has created a number of brands with his nick-name “Speegboat,” including: Speedgoat Karl’s 100-Mile Blend Coffee, The Speedgoat 50k, and the Hoka One One Speedgoat shoe. Karl also announces that he will be attempting to break Scott Jurek’s fastest known time on a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail.
